Z Art Space is proud to present Perhaps Inadvertently, a solo exhibition of new and recent watercolour drawings by Canadian-American artist Robin Crofut-Brittingham. Presented as part of PICTURA, this exhibition showcases the artist’s ongoing fascination with the flora and fauna while hinting towards an inadvertent future of co-habitation of human and nature, a modern-day utopia fuelled with ecological failures and ideals.

Drawing inspiration from mythology, science fiction, current events, and personal history, Robin Crofut-Brittingham’s work grows from a fascination with ways in which humans interact with the natural world. Through the creation of fantasy worlds and beings, her finely detailed drawings reimagine concepts of natural disasters, evolution, and extinction, to illustrate a new and harmonious order of coexistence. As the artist explains: “In this contemporary moment when we seem constantly on the precipice of some unknown future I use my paintings to reflect on what it is like to be human at this time by creating my own imaginary world.”

Robin Crofut-Brittingham (b. 1989) received her BA from Bard College in Annandale-On-Hudson, New York with a focus in Poetry and Art History. She completed her MFA at the San Francisco Art Institute. She was the recipient of the Murphy Cadogan Award from the San Francisco Foundation and a Martha Boschen Porter Award through the Berkshire Taconic Foundation. Her work has been featured in Novella, Frankie, My Modern Met, Hi Fructose and on Booooooom, among others, and has been exhibited in solo and group exhibitions throughout the US and Canada. She currently lives and works in Montreal, Canada.
