Ingrid Syage Tremblay
born 1975 - lives and works in Montréal, QC
Ingrid Syage Tremblay's sculptural carvings transform personal narratives and great historical mythologies into tangible, grounded material realities. Working primarily with wood, ”a living material that carries within it the passage of time,” her work focuses on notions of transmission and loss, exploring how stories migrate through material and memory. As navigated in the respective practices of these artists, the elemental building blocks— material, color, texture, movement—become an enchanted site of generative potential, a portal to understanding and thereby creating meaning out of the entanglement between humans and the material and metaphysical worlds they inhabit.
Ingrid Syage Tremblay (b. 1984, Montreal) holds a BFA from Concordia University and a Master’s in Sculpture from the University of Texas at Austin. She has recently exhibited at the Agnes Etherington Art Center (Kingston), CIRCA art actuel (Montreal), Apexart (New York), and Grand Palais Éphémère (Paris). Her works can be found in the collections of Collection Ville de Montréal, The Carving Studio and Sculpture Center (USA) and private collections. She lives and works in Montreal.
